A device for rainfall simulation in geotechnical centrifuges

Abstract Rainfall-induced slope instabilities are ubiquitous in nature, but simulation of this type hazards with centrifuge modelling still poses difficulties. In paper, we introduce a rainfall device for initiating failure medium-sized centrifuge. This system is simple, robust and affordable. An array perforated hoses placed close above the model surface to generate raindrops. The intensity depends on acceleration flow rate water supply, which controlled by size number tiny pinholes hose walls. intensities that tested range from 2.5–30 mm/h, covering moderate, heavy torrential events. Our test rainfall-induced shows capable generating relatively uniform wide leads various patterns failure.
